BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA (June 16, 2019) ImmersaView started in a spare bedroom in Brisbane Australia and is on a growth trajectory after picking up some of the world’s biggest defence companies as clients.
Banyo-based ImmersaView, which provides visualization technology for flight simulators, emergency training, and unmanned aerial vehicles, is planning to increase staff numbers as it takes advantage of growing investment in defence industries in Australia.
ImmersaView president and co-founder, Dr. Andy Boud, said the company began in 2016 in a sleepout at his home now had Boeing and Lockheed Martin as clients and offices in the U.S. and Britain.
The company was acquired by US-based simulation software company, PLEXSYS, in 2017 giving greater access to defence work in the U.S.
Dr. Boud said ImmersaView had developed software that allowed the merging of visual data into one screen for a variety of applications including helicopter flight simulators and virtual training systems for the London Fire Brigade.
He said the company which employed about 15 staff, planned to increase that in the coming years as it picked up more contracts. The company has attracted funding under the Advance Queensland program.
The company expects to have greater opportunities for following the Federal Government’s decision to lift defence spending over the next six years. The Government’s 10-year defence budget plan 2025-26 increased from $32.4 billion in 2016-17 to $58.7 billion in 2025-26.
“Any defence program where applicable will now lean towards using Australian technology, which should be good for us,” Dr. Boud said.
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, and Infrastructure Cameron Dick recently toured the UK headquarters of British defence company QinetiQ which is using technology developed by ImmersaView to obtain high-quality vision from unmanned aircraft was increasingly important in surveillance, security, and defence operations.
“In the UK, QinetiQ and the Ministry of Defence run the world’s most sophisticated and modern unmanned and autonomous systems.” Mr. Barsby said.
