COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (November 11, 2021) – Salient CRGT, now part of GovernmentCIO, has completed the design and delivery of the Multi-Domain Laboratory (MDL) for the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), inclusive of two modular suites. Salient CRGT’s performance was coordinated with the support of Subcontractor PLEXSYS Interface Products, Inc. (PLEXSYS), as well as other industry partners, to create suites that house a fully integrated Joint All-Domain Operations Center (JADOC), Flight Bay, and remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) flight room. After years of work, the USAFA MDL is ready for prime time and officially opened its doors at a ribbon-cutting held on September 17, 2021.
The laboratory’s primary focus is on experiential learning for cadet education. Each of the two JADOCs contain 24 operations center positions, which simulate operations from the strategic and operational-level of command and control. In a tailorable way, these simulators can replicate an Air Operations Center (AOC), Space Operations Center (SpOC), and all of their associated capabilities, roles, and missions – along with cyber integration and other joint domains. Each of the two Flight Bays consist of six command and control (C2), electronic warfare (EW), intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) positions, as well as 12 Immersive Learning Devices/flight simulators that simulate the employment of 10 different fighter and bomber aircraft, along with air battle management, EW, and ISR platforms. Finally, the two RPA flight rooms each house three RPA simulators.
The two suites can run independently or be linked into the same scenario. Furthermore, the suites fully integrate voice, data link, and chat capabilities to enhance decision-making processes. Through the integration of all the parts of this lab cadets are able to see the interconnectivity of their learning and our war fighting abilities and fulfil the Dean’s mission of educating and inspiring warrior scholars.
